Duck blind design and other stuff?
Goose season ended yesterday:(, sad, I know. It inspired me to build a new blind. I just have a few questions, since I'm 17 and normally I have my dad to refer to, but he is busy for the weekend and I have to get started now.
I want to take an old snowmobile trailer that we have (good shape and needs no structural work) and turn it into my duck blind. The idea is it will be about 4 feet tall, maybe 3 and a half., and be shaped like an upside down V, but not pointed at the top, it will be flat for 4 or 5 shooting doors.The sides will have panels that flip down to conceal the wheels and jacks. There will be right angles on all sides, so my idea is to store decoys and ammunition on shelves within.
Questions:
1. Will this work?
2. Is it even legal in NYS?
3. How should I spread about 50-100 decoys around it?
4. What is a good way to mount corn stalks around it?
Do you need this thing portable? If you will finish it go ahead. Honestly,I look for 360degree visiblility and a clear sky all around. I use a light weight frame with seat and shell rack and wrap it with sage brush,cat tails,corn stalks or whatever my background is. I just wrap it with string. If you need to move it...2 guys can easily put it in a truck or small trailer.
I like to keep a low profile and use natural looking cover. A good blind should just look like a clump of bushes. Your decoys should be spread in several family groups up wind.....because geese will land into the wind behind your decoys or to one side. You can use big staples for the stalks or U-nails.
